quarterback and claimed All-State honors during Coach Gene Weeks' tenure as Head Coach. Conaway
graduated in 1999.
After graduating from GCT, Conaway went to Ouachita Baptist University where he gained experience at
Quarterback and Wide Receiver. During his stint at OBU, Conaway also served as a Student Assistant
coaching QB's and WR's. During the 2003 football season, Coach Conaway served as the Receivers
Coach at Arkadelphia High School. From there, Conaway went to Shiloh Christian in Springdale, AR.
During his four years at Shiloh, Conaway experienced great success in a very Tradition Rich program
racking up 44 wins, 3 Conference Championships, 2 State Championship appearances, and 1 State
Championship. While at Shiloh, Conaway coached many Division I and Division II players. Coach
Conaway was a part of one of the most prolific offenses in the state of Arkansas. Many records were
broken and many teams were punished by the "score early and score often" mentality.
In Conaway's first year at GCT, quarterback Seth Tripod shattered all passing records throwing for more
than 3,200 yards and 40 touchdowns. The 2008 Eagles broke the schools scoring record and the 705
total offensive yards against Forest City ranks in the top five in Arkansas history. The Eagles ended the
season just one win away from their first playoff appearance in 13 years.
The 2009 team crushed the playoff drought setting a school record 9 wins and finishing 2nd in the 5A
East. They won the first playoff game in school history and will always be known as the team that
overcame great adversity. These seniors went 0-10 as sophomores and 9-3 as seniors. Both Standrick
Williams and Caleb Hartwig signed football scholarships and will be taking their skills to the collegiate
level.
With the 2011 season quickly approaching, the Golden Eagles are ready to once again, embark on
uncharted territory. The Eagles are gearing up for a season unlike any other with attempts to play a
home playoff game and play football the week of Thanksgiving. With the 2nd year in a row of
non-conference opponents Jonesboro, Hoxie, and Marion, the Eagles know that the bar has been
raised.
Coach Conaway is happily married to his biggest fan, Melissa, and the two have a 1 year old daughter,
Landry Karis.
"I am very grateful for the opportunity to come back home and work with the great students, parents,
and supporters in this community. GCT Football is on the map and we are building Champions one
player at a time."
